Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 vs Seiko Presage SRPD37
Two of the most popular mechanical watches in the mid-range segment go head to head. Both offer exceptional value, but they solve very different problems — one is a sporty integrated-bracelet daily-wearer, the other a classic dress watch. Here is how to choose.
Price & Value
The Seiko Presage SRPD37 sits around $295, while the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 runs about $650. The PRX costs roughly twice as much, and that gap shows up in the movement, crystal, and finishing.
Movement
The Presage uses Seiko’s 4R35 with a 41-hour power reserve. The Tissot’s Powermatic 80 (an ETA-derived Swiss movement) holds an 80-hour reserve — leave it off over a weekend and it is still running Monday morning. Advantage: Tissot.
Build & Crystal
The PRX has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, 100m water resistance, and a fully integrated steel bracelet in the 1970s idiom. The Presage uses a box Hardlex crystal (softer than sapphire), 50m water resistance, and a leather strap. Advantage: Tissot on durability; Presage on dressiness.
Style
Pick the Tissot PRX if you want one steel sports watch you can wear daily, get wet, and dress up or down. Pick the Seiko Presage if you want a formal dress watch with a spectacular dial and cannot justify the extra spend. Different watches, both excellent — the right answer is the one that matches your wardrobe.
